I hate to use this image as an introduction for this blog but such is life in April in Montana. I was supposed to be guiding yesterday but...2 feet of snow kind of squashed that.
I have been out on the river a few times in the past couple weeks and although at times it can be slow, there are fish to be had. The flow is up around 7,000cfs and rising. Instability in the flows can make the fishing a little difficult. Look for slow water underneath islands and side channels. The BWO's are coming out and fish are starting to eat them.
For those that came over from my Geocities site--welcome. For the newcomers, just a little house keeping; I've had this blog on Geocities for a couple years now but it's become increasingly more difficult to manage. Plus, they just announced that Geocities would be eliminated later on this year. If you want to check out previous postings, please visit: www.geocities.com/jl_butta99/blog.html
So a couple weeks ago we did the Smith--a five day float through some amazing country here in Central Montana. I took some pretty cool video and will posting a sample later. The weather was amazing and the company was great...the fishing sucked. But you don't take a Smith River trip from the fishing.
Keep 'em where they live y'all--in the water not in the trees.
