USGS Stream Flows and Local Weather
Yep, hit the Yellowstone again yesterday and of course, the weather was what it often can be in Montana in the spring...With visibility at times as low as about a hundred yards due to heavy, wet snow; we fished as long as we could and then took refuge under a bridge to dry out. The streamer bite was pretty sick though.
We started early at the top of the "bird float," which is Grey Owl down to Mallard's Landing. We were on the water by about 7:30 and landing fish by 7:40. The streamers were on and we were having a blast even thought we were getting dumped on. At least the wind was down .They say that catching a few fish can really make you forget about the cold but you know it's really cold though when the fishing is on and guys are still fighting each other to take their turn on the oars. (I feel like this is becoming a common theme for this spring out here in Montana. It really can be nice, though and the fishing has been pretty damn good so don't let a little weather get in the way of your fun.)
At around 2 o'clock the clouds dissipated, the sun came out and the temps rose to around 55 degrees and of course, the fish stopped eating the big stuff. I was ok with that to be honest. We caught plenty of good fish for the first six hours or so--so complaints in our boat.
BTW, if I haven't mentioned it yet, you can get up-to-minute stream flows and local weather by clicking on the links to the right.
Keep 'em where they live...
