Boots

My favorite time of the year is just around the corner. This weekend was the first weekend of pre-season football, which means the real deal is less than a month a way and the elk are already down in the hay fields just west of the Wolf Creek Bridge. With a day off yesterday I traded in my boat shoes for boots and Jill and I headed up in the hills for some scouting.

I usually don't scout because I'm so busy either guiding or fishing or getting one last round of golf in but I figure my luck is going to run out and since I didn't draw any B tags this year, I'm going to have to seal the deal early. We didn't see much for sign but it has been pretty hot so I think the elk are either still high in the mountains or down in the creek bottoms. They will be back and I will be ready.

FYI, there are still tricos and still fish eating them. They are also going after the terrestrials so don't be afraid to venture back to the river. As the nights get longer and cooler, fish will get hungry again and they will be looking for the big ticket items. Throw the T-bone and hang on. It should happen soon.

Keep 'em where they live...
