As for the Fishing...

The fishing's been great the past week or so. I took a couple guys up to the damn dam and well, it fished like the dam. People are starting to spread out a bit so it wasn't all that crowded and as far as guarantees, it's the closest thing to it on the MO. Big fish and lots of 'em, what more could you ask for? Solitude? Yeah, you won't find it there but if you just want to get into fish and get into them quick, head up stream.

The last couple days were spent down low...'er. The first day was rainy and cold so we tried streamers. One thing that we proved is you gotta get 'em moving and you have to hit the spots. My guys were fairly new at it and were having a hard time even moving fish. At one point one of the guys offered to row for a couple hundred yards while I showed them...hooked three. They are there you just have to get it in front of them and don't let them think about it. Dry fly fishing was pretty stellar that day too. We didn't mess around with the small stuff; just blind casted caddis and trudes and caught plenty.

The next day we went to Cascade. High sun, a little wind; perfect for indoctrinating someone to the dry fly scene on the Mo...right. At about noon fish started coming up. After throwing hoppers for about an hour with absolutely nothing, we went back to the 'never sink' trude and a small Bloom's parachute caddis. Although we didn't actually land a ton, we did get at least a couple dozen good eats. That's after counting all the fish that were put down by dragging over the top of them. All and all I'd say it was a pretty good day for a newbie in those kinds of conditions.

So the picture above is the strangest thing I've ever seen caught on a dry fly. It's a leech. No, I don't think it was trying to eat the fly but it was hooked right in the sucker. Pretty cool...

Keep 'em where they live...

P.S. Anyone know of any cool jobs for the winter?
