Counting Chickens

Chickens or ducks...the weather came and with it so are the ducks and geese. It's just the start of a wave that I hope sticks around for a little while. I went out last night for a quick hunt and blasted a couple mallards. There were plenty of birds but with the flocks of 30 or more, they just kept sailing over head. Every once in a while a deuce would come through and set in the decoys and as for the geese, a random flock would occasionally present a shot...of course, I still can't hit the damn things. I think it's because they are such a huge target and they don't look like they are going as fast as they are. I always thought it would be cool to load shotgun shells with some kind of phosphate bee bees that would glow so you could see where your shot was going. I'm guessing I'm at least 3 feet behind...

As for the chickens, I thought I was all set for the winter. I had a sweet hook-up with an independent heating and cooling guy that was saying he was getting too busy to keep up. Well, his girlfriend broke up with him so he's been laying low for the past couple weeks, which means I'm left hanging out to dry. I guess I'm going to be back in the temp job market with everyone else. As an independent contractor myself, I can't even collect unemployment. Maybe I could write a hit song...
