Fishing Report

The river is at 8200 cfs, the temperature out of the dam is 44 degrees and the fishing has been good. Baetis are up and if the conditions are right, fish are getting on them. Well, the dinks have been on them. I'm guessing any day soon, maybe today with the cloud cover, the bigger fish will start coming up too.

Streamer fishing can be ok but spotty. We've done well down-stream and have caught a few around Craig but the big fish seem to have gone rouge. In years past, we have caught some pigs hanging on the banks at this time of year and these temps. Some of the old-timers think the water temps need to come up a bit first. I'm not sure about that. We've caught monsters on streamers right off the bank in February. This year is different.

One sure sign that things are changing is that fish are on the seems and in the toilet bowls. I had a client out the other day in bright sun and wind and we stuck some of our best fish following the bobber around the swirls in the scum lines. It fished like it was mid-summer...testament to all the bugs collecting in those areas. That will bring fish to the banks and on seems for sure.

Good luck and keep 'em where they live.
