Catching Up

It's been a while I know but busy, busy, busy, which is definitely a good thing. I'll share a little fishing report first before the recap. I have fished up at the dam and things are a bit slow unless you're drifting the right bugs, which they may not be what you think. I rowed past a fellow trout wrangler the other day, Brett, and as I rowed by I asked him how it was going and he said it was much better than the last day we fished up there. He also said they were eating some bigger may flies so I pulled my own "rabbit" out of the hat and we started roping 'em. It's nice when they eat the big stuff; you can actually land a few. Hoppers have been off and on but if you hit it right, the "on" can be pretty dam good. Here's a great brown my guy Colin got the other day. We also rolled a bunch along the rocks, some of which were as big as I've seen in a long time. There's nothing like watching a two-foot brown do the the drive-by on a big old hopper and then turn to suck it down. Nice work Colin.

So since the last update, I donated a trip to the Healing Waters project. It was a good time and the guys were very cool. I was definitely happy to do it. About half-way into the trip, I dropped my anchor to re-tie and when I went to pull the "hook" up, the rope snapped. I was in the middle of the river and pulled hard on the oars to bring the boat back over the anchor but without a way to hold it while I fished the 30# anchor out, we had to leave it behind. Having a couple innovative dudes on the boat, we grabbed a piece of cement off the bank and tied it up for a make-shift anchor. It didn't work very well but it gave us something.

So two days ago, I put my boat in just down-stream of the hook and rigged up a buoy and when I found the thing, I dropped the buoy, then rowed back over the anchor and fished it out with a rake. It's seems like a lot of work but I saved myself $80 and I wound up catching a nice little brown of my own on a hopper during the mission.

My phone died too so I bought a cool Droid type phone with all the whistles and bells. Unfortunately, I have really learned too much about the bells and since I've been taking most of the pics in the last couple weeks with it, I have little to show because I can't figure out how to transfer the pics to my damn computer. I would email them to myself but I don't get a strong enough signal for the 3G network so I got nothing. It's a cool phone though.

Here's the skinny on Verizon too; you don't have to spend an extra $30 a month on a 2 gig data package. I bought the phone for 50 bucks after rebate from the Verizon store and signed up for a 300 megabyte data package for only $10 more than what I was paying and I get unlimited text messaging and phone calls. Crazy! And to be honest; I've only used up about 30 meg in a week and a half.

Keep 'em where the live....

p.s. Bow hunting started today and although I have been really busy, I also have some days off this month and will be hitting the mountains. Today was our first day out and got real close on a spike bull. It wasn't a legal bull but it was cool to talk to.
