Mo Ducks

Last year I saw three huge mule deer where I had been elk hunting but couldn't shoot them because I didn't have a tag so this year I put in for it for that area. I've been up there hiking now multiple times without seeing a thing accept orange. I've never seen so many hunters in that area so it's a little frustrating and we're not seeing any animals. People keep blaming it on the wolves but it's really the amount of pressure from hunting. The snow last week did bring elk down and we did see dozens of beds right where they're suppose to be but there were also people tromping all over them. We hiked for 4 1/2 hours straight the other night through knee-deep snow and saw absolutely nothing. So last night I headed back down to the river...

The duck hunting has been pretty dam good so far. I was able to shoot 6 mallards last night and should have limited out but I missed an easy layup on a drake pintail. I've never shot a pintail and I had this guy cupped and setting in my decoys and with the wind blowing pretty good, he looked like he was suspended in mid-air  right in front of me. Three shots and an f'bomb and he took off the way he came. Oh well, that's hunting.

Keep 'em where they live...
