On Second Thought

I wrote a pretty scathing blog entry yesterday after a good day of fishing but a horrible day dealing with all the Bro Bra's and trout chasers from around the state clogging up the river the day before...in October? Really? This is my favorite time of year to guide because there's usually nobody out there! I didn't post the entry but I'm sure I'll be in it all day today too so we shall see.

Anyway, it was busy and it was frustrating when every time you hooked up, three boats jump your shit and you have to leave fish just to get away from the traffic jams but it is what it is and there are options.

Yesterday, the weather was perfect for everyone to be in the Canyon. The wind was howling from the South/South West and usually, that means trying to find shelter. That being said, I took my dudes down to Cascade. Yep, Pelican to Cascade. We saw only two or three other boats the entire day and although we had slow periods, the wind couldn't keep us from putting a fair number of big fish in the net.

The thing about the wind, is it's going to be windy everywhere. With a downstream wind, all you accomplish in going through the Canyon is finding log jams where there is cover and wind tunnels everywhere else. At least when you get below the Canyon, the wind is always blowing from the same direction and you get used to it. It actually makes you a better angler and you get a work-out if you're on the sticks.

Keep 'em where they live...

P.S. Buy local and you'll catch more fish. Just sayin...
