With the wind blowing close to 40mph all day today, I decided to get away from the water and do a little exploring. I caught this bull snake crossing a gravel road. I say "caught" because I did actually pick it up and move it off the road so technically one could count it as bringing one snake to the hand.
These are really cool looking snakes and pretty harmless. We see them swimming the river all the time and the word on the street is that they eat rattlesnakes along with ground squirrels and mice. That puts them in the plus side of things with me. I'd rather run into this guy than a rattler. And they are beautiful--not to get all Crocodile Hunter on you but when I saw him on the road I had to stop and help him out before he got smushed.
They do bite though so I'd suggest not getting this close.
Keep 'em where they live...
