Gadwall Drake

The season opened up again this past weekend for the final hurrah and what seems to be apparent is a new wave of ducks and geese. Check this out, a drake gadwall. We also saw some pintails, which is kind of weird because one would think those "dabbler" ducks that nest in the pot-holes on the Prairies in the Northern Plains would have been long gone by now. The reality is, these guys are probably coming from way up in Canada near Hudson Bay where there is some influence from the ocean keeping water open a little longer. We always seem to get some random ducks like these and the pintails coming through in the late season.

Wednesday will be the last day on the ducks and it feels like the weather is shifting a bit with a warm front coming in. If the wind stays down, I might have to bust out the fly rod soon. Winter fishing on the Missouri can be pretty epic.

Keep 'em where they live...
