Come Hell or High Water

I'm not going to blow smoke up your ass but if you're afraid to come out because of the high water, you're missing out on some really good action. So come hell or high water? I'd say you should get your ass to the Missouri. Are you going to catch fiddy? Probably not but what you will probably find is what Matt Lindsay accomplished yesterday which was another Missouri River trifecta.

The top pic is one of several fish on nymphs. This spawned out buck is a good indication of rainbows coming back to the Missouri and wanting to put on some weight. That's good for you and me...bad for the buck.

The picture below is one of several fish we closed out the day with on dries. They are a challenge given the water they are staging in because they are tight to the bank but they are incredibly fun and when you do get a bug over them with a good drift, they are going to eat. Tons and tons of midges are on the water with the sporadic BWO and even a few March browns, which makes the brown trout happy and eager.

We also got a few on streamers. That's a well rounded day, folks and although you're not going to set any records, you're going to have fun and definitely have opportunities to challenge yourself and to see what the Missouri is all about.

I get it; you see the reports and you see the river at about 5,000 cfs higher than normal for this time of the year and that can make for challenging fishing. Last week was a little tough. The water was kind of in that "in between" stage where the fish have a lot of water to hang in. A couple thousand cfs higher and now their options start to shrink. There are only a few places they can hold and eat and when you find them--game ON!

And again, with the bugs now and fish having to eat, it's getting pretty damn good so put down the remote and stop watching people catch fish and get your butt out here and throw a line yourself!

Keep 'em where they live...
