In this day of Covid, all of us independent contractors are doing what we can to get by. Acting? If you've seen some of my self-produced videos, I can see where you might not think that's an option for me. Well...
That's right, baby! I did score a role and it's not on the Yellowstone series as an extra. I know! Right?
Here's the deal. I entered a contest called "The Next Great Podcast." By doing so, I had to register on a website that also solicits help from their members to create content for ads that will be shown on various social media sites. One of the first opportunities I saw, was to video yourself reading a few lines for a mystery company that is in the healthcare business. Given the content of the lines, I'm assuming the ad is addressing mental health issues and making viewers aware of their services.
I woke up one morning and checked my email and saw the directive. They were asking for a diverse group of people to use on the ad, basically looking into the camera asking things like, "hey, are you all right?" I literally didn't even take a shower. I threw on a hat and grabbed a cup of coffee, set up my camera and 30 minutes later, was sending them my files. Apparently, they needed a 50 year-old, scruffy looking guy to connect with people who might benefit from their services. Look for me all across the various social media platforms!
I realize this isn't a 'real' acting gig but I did get paid. I won't go into detail how much it was but let's just say that half-hour of 'work' paid my mortgage for a month.
Keep 'em where they live...
