I took out Devon from Colorado and his grandparents yesterday. What a treat that little guy was. Barely ever had casted a rod before at the age of 10, he turned out to be another rock star out fishing his grandpa and grandma.
Right out of the gate, Devon caught a nice 20 inch brown on his first cast...no lie. But my oar got stuck in the mud and popped out of the lock so instead of getting a really cool grip and grin shot, we let the fish go and chased down my oar. Thank God for Sawyer Oars that float. We did get a couple shots of other fish Devon caught.
Given that yesterday was the 4th, starting early and getting off early was nice. We avoided most of the crowds until the take-out at Stickney Creek, which was packed. I learned a lesson a couple years ago from Angie the Fishing Goddess though; a few minutes of impatiens can be costly. Turns out, if you lend a helping hand, people tend to move out of the way.
Keep 'em where they live...
