Allen: The Blind Squirrel

Hey, I didn't say it. After landing this 22 inch brown, Allen busted out the; "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while," quote. Great attributes to have when getting guided is having thick skin and perseverance. Allen definitely has that and it paid off.

Busy, busy, busy out there the last few days. We floated the canyon on day one and with the weather being a little cold and cloudy, we got into some great dry fly action. I love when the PMD's are popping along with the caddis and they'll even eat some terrestrials. Blind casting big dries...you can't beat it.

Day two we tried to get out of the crowds and headed down to Cascade. Fewer boats for sure and although we did get a lot of good fish on nymphs, the fishing was much tougher. Sun and a little wind and we went back to the nymphs in the afternoon to finish strong. BTW, Allen caught a 21 inch brown with John LaRue right at the Cascade take-out after spending most of the afternoon in the penalty box. Nice work Allen coming up big in the final hour on both the last two days.

The big browns were out in force on day three. We hooked up on a few before landing this gal. We did land a few great fish and a bunch of the cookie cutter 16-18 inchers. Great week with Allen, Marty, Ned and Clint. Can't wait to see you guys back out here next year.

Keep 'em where they live...

P.S. I wasn't going to say this but... It's busy out there. Really busy. Don't be a dick. Drifting up ten feet behind me in the canyon and hooting and hollering because you landed another whitefish? That's being a dick. Floating through a pod of rising fish while we're posted on them and then slapping a nymph rig down on them as you go through...dick. Pulling inside a seam and parking when you see us doing row rounds in that same seam from the outside... And if you're an outfitter and you're fishing right along one of your guides that is doing this, maybe you should say something.
