It's day three of the Aussies--a group of guys from Australia (obviously,) who spend a few weeks every year during their winter to tour the West and fish everywhere from the Green, the Henry's Fork, South Fork, Grand Teton and now the Missouri. They couldn't have hit the Missouri any better as we get late rain and the water has dropped bringing just about every fish in the river up. Plus they are good sticks.
I fished with the ring leader/owner of the fly shop in Australia where they plan their trip out of on day one. That had to be the absolute easiest guide day of my career. This guy could throw 80 feet and still put a reach in his cast without any effort at all. We absolutely stroked them. Really good guy too.
To be honest, I didn't even know they had much fly fishing in Australia. They actually don't but there are a few hardy folks that are very passionate about it and take advantage of the few opportunities they get. From what I gather, the fishing is tough over there with very few fish and pretty technical water. It's good enough to appease their fix though, in between trips to New Zealand and now North America. Great dudes too. I'm glad they've ventured up this way. Look forward to next year already.
Keep 'em where they live...
