The Real Story on Favre

Yesterday was the last day of the Carter group. We had a great time with them and hate to see them go but they'll be back. This was the Doc's daughter, Roan with a nice Missouri Bow.

The Doc was a prominent member of the Atlanta Falcon's medical staff in the nineties. We got on the topic of football and were reminiscing about the '98 Falcon/Viking NFC Championship Game where Anderson missed the kick...you know the story. Being a Packer fan, I never mind re-living that moment. Anyway, the conversation went from that game to the trade the Packers made for Favre.

We were all under the impression that Favre had a partying problem and that the Falcons had given up on him. According to the Doc, this couldn't have been further from the truth. Favre had been injured in the Senior Bowl--the last game he played in college. The Falcons medical staff passed him in his physical and then signed him but they soon noticed in meetings that Favre was always uncomfortable and could never sit still so they approached him on it and found out he was still dealing with the injury. The MRI they did showed hip injury much like the one that sent Bo Jackson into early retirement so the Falcons got scared and decided to bail on him.

The Falcons told the Packers it was a partying problem because they didn't want the injury to come out making Favre virtually worthless. They made the trade thinking they had screwed the Packers and dodged a bullet. What they did was sent one of the toughest and most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history to the Packers... Thanks Falcons.

Keep 'em where they live...
