Yesterday was sunny and in the upper 70's on the MO. The water was flowing at about 12,500 cfs coming out of the dam and the fish were not happy so we decided the smart thing would be to float down to Cascade to do a little recon. As one can expect, the fishing was poor but the weather was nice and the wind was down. Water visibility was ok but lots of debris. We did the entire float, which I think is around 11 miles, in about 4 1/2 hours. We didn't fish it hard but we still found a half a dozen fish in some of the spots I thought they would be moving into. And they were still eating small nymphs as well as the worm so that's a good thing. I think it will happen soon with the water stabilizing a bit and some of the tribs coming down. Of course, it all depends on spring storms and the Dearborn is high right now with the run-off just starting.
As for the boys up high, which was just about everyone, the report I got was that it started really slow and then it got tough. Nobody really "got 'em" so I wasn't all that discouraged with what happened down low. Again, with the water levels stabilizing, it should pick up soon.
Keep 'em where they live...
