Holy Heat Wave

Damn it's hot. Today it's suppose to be in the upper nineties again. Thank god for a few days off. Yesterday I was canceled last minute so I went golfing. Deposits were kept so although I won't get paid what I normally would, it's almost like getting paid to golf. I shot a 79! It was my first day off in weeks and only my fourth day off since the second week in June. Got to make hay right? Today however; more golf. I'm going down to golf Old Works in Anaconda with a couple guys I've been guiding this season.

So let's talk about the weather. It's fricken hot! And although we have seen some moisture, it's not nearly enough given the heat. Everything is drying up. Even the Dearborn, which is normally at 60 cfs is at 33 today. It's also hit 75 degree 4 out of the last 7 days so it's out. I know there have been afternoon river closures on it and a few other tribs but I wouldn't be surprised if that's changed; more rivers on the list and maybe even all day closures.

Having said that, the fishing on the Mo has held up pretty damn well. I have been fishing quite a bit down stream having some great days. You have to work for them but it's been good. If fact, the last couple days we've put five fish in the boat on hoppers well over 20 inches and the early nymph fishing has be good as well. (As long as you're willing to deal with the weeds.) I'll tell you about the hopper fishing as soon as I get the pics from my clients. Really good people and really fun days.

Get out early folks and get off before it get's too hot. As for me, our t-time is right when the temps should max out. Nice.

Keep 'em where they live...
