Last Call for Skiing-2013

It was cold as...this weekend so instead of hitting the river we hit the slopes at Big Sky for the last weekend of the season. It was dumping snow, off and on and I think they parked the groomers for the summer--lots of fun but lots of work too.

It was also the annual "Pond Skimmin" event, which proved to be pretty damn awesome. For those that don't know what that is, it's basically a bunch of people dressed up in anything from Tigger costumes to Speedos barreling ass down the hill until they come to a pond at the bottom that they either take the ramp and jump into, skim across it, or some variation of tumbling and skipping half-way through it. Nope, it's not heated and the temps were near freezing on Saturday so I'm sure it couldn't have been pleasant.

There were at least a hundred people participating in the event and a couple thousand watching on the side of the hill. The youngest was a 6-year-old and there was a woman in her fifties. One dude dressed in a one-piece swim-suite took the ramp, did a back flip, and continued to skim across the entire pond without taking a digger. Incredible. I'm sure you can find examples of it on YouTube. I'm going to keep checking for the back flip dude and I'll be posting it as soon as I find it.

Keep 'em where they live...
