Fly of the Week
I fished the Madison again down by Grey Cliffs the other day and did a little product testing. It's not revolutionary but it does catch fish and it only takes about 30 seconds to tie. Four steps on the bench and between this little guy and the worm, I hooked a couple dozen fish in less than an hour and a half.
It's time to get moving on tying flies as the season is quickly approaching. Here's what I consider when choosing what flies to tie and which ones to buy. First thing is it has to catch fish. The second thing to consider is how long it will take tie and whether or not I can even find it at one of the shops. This little guy resembles a few out there like the Mirage or the Rainbow Warrior but the difference is I'm using a black nickel bead, red thread with peal Mylar, and a little bit of woolhead olive dubbing from Hareline. I'm going to call it the Pearly Gate. (I realize naming flies that aren't all that ground breaking is a little pretentious but I'm naming it anyway.)
Keep 'em where they live...
