Snow Pack Report-March 11, 2015

Yes, it's warm out here--actually, pretty damn hot right now. I think it was close to 70 yesterday with bright sun. For March 10th, that's pretty crazy and it get the guides and outfitters out here wondering and speculating for what's to come.

I had a discussion with a lodge owner from Twin Bridges who's kind of freaking out. I said we had pretty close to normal snow pack as of right now but she disagreed. Well, here's the data as of today so look for yourself.

The truth of the matter is however, that this warm weather is suppose to stick around for a little while. If we don't get more winter/snow in the high country, we might have a tough summer but I wouldn't get too worked up just yet. What I would do, is come on out and hit the rivers while the getting is good.

Here's a nice brown I got on the Madi yesterday.

No, it didn't eat that blue thing. It ate a scud. I'm still in the trial period for my short leashing system. It does work and I like the fact that I'm not using the pinch-ons that fall off and clutter up the river but like other yard indicators, it does get water logged. The foam keeps it up a little better and it's definitely more reliable than the way a traditional yarn indicator is attached to the line though so who knows, maybe this will be the ticket for short leashing this year.

One thing about the heat and sun is it definitely brings out the pot-guts. Here's my neighbor with a trophy from yesterday. I know, some people think it's a little crewel but these things can wreck a pasture so we decided to take a break from fishing for a little while yesterday and do our share of eradicating. And I got to be honest, it's pretty fricken fun.
