The American Avocet

I had the absolute pleasure of fishing the last couple days with the Boyer group. The sun was out, the bugs were popping and fish were happy. Donny Vierra, the Boyer's private pilot, took this shot of these really cool American avocets. As you've been hearing all spring, we don't normally see these guys this early but they make a showing on Mo every spring as they head to their nesting areas. We're at the top end of their range so you won't see a ton of them. My fishing tip of the week is to take the time to notice of all the birds and other wildlife venturing through. It's a cool time of the year and although there are a ton of happy fish out there, don't forget about all the other things that make fly fishing the Missouri a truly special trip.

Keep 'em where they live...
