Hunting and fishing are a combination of art and science. We interpret nature and do our best to emulate things like a duck call or a fly pattern or the way we set up decoys. We try hard however, to also understand the science behind certain variables so we can predict outcomes and thus control what we can control and put ourselves in the best position for success. Watching the weather and planning a hunt around that is the science part that I'm admittedly still struggling with. However, if the front would have moved through like what was forecasted, we should have seen birds. I will say that even though the ducks were non-existent yesterday, it definitely supported the theory of hunting the back-end so lesson learned--at least for this time of the year when the local ducks have moved on and we're waiting for the next wave of Northerners.
It is what it is, right? We can't control the weather and what happened yesterday is now set clearly in the rearview mirror and fading fast. There is a skiff of snow on the ground, the front is moving through and today will be a good test to the theory of hunting the back end of the system. Wish us luck...(oh yeah, art and science but don't forget the luck.)
Keep 'em where they live...
