Say Hello to My Little Friend

If you're an arachnophobia-tic, you probably shouldn't take on a project like mine. I thought this was a black widow but after doing some checking, I'm thinking it's not. They don't always have red on their abdomen and there are several species including the brown widow and false widows but now I'm thinking this particular one is just a house spider. However, I have seen many that resemble black widows in this house and I know they are prevalent out here in Montana. I'm not overly concerned because the reality is, black widow bites that result in any real consequences to humans are pretty rare. Plus, I'm usually so busy trying to pull crap apart when I see them that I don't really have time to worry about them. I just step on them.

As for the house, it's coming along. I ordered my kitchen cabinets and appliances yesterday and I'm finished with the bedroom minus a short wall that I'm waiting for the electrician to put an outlet in. The floors are finished and they look great. The bathroom is also at a standstill right now as again, I'm waiting for electrical to be moved before I seal up the walls. Timing is everything when putting the puzzle back together and if I get ahead of myself, I'll end up tearing things apart that I'd rather not do twice. The problem is, it's a very busy time of the year for contractors and to be honest, it's hard to find one you can trust and when you do, you kind of want to stick with them...so does everyone else. My electrician is crazy busy but he's suppose to be out this week to run some wire. Then it should all come together and I'll have a place to sleep, shower, and poop in. The cooking piece is going to be a while.

Last week I wrote about Wabi-Sabi. It was brought to my attention that maybe the concept was derived from people that either lack the attention to detail or aren't really good at making things look good. I'm not sure where I fall into that spectrum. I do like things that look distressed so I took the wainscoting to a barn-like feel. It is definitely consistent with the farmhouse/fort theme I'm going for but again, it's also a lot easier to make the lines look like they're not suppose to be perfectly straight or clean. Here's the paradox though. After distressing the bead-board for the wainscoting, I actually had to go back and 'fix' some of the distressed spots as they didn't look right...hmm. That kind of defeats the purpose of the Wabi-Sabi introspection.

While I'm waiting for the electrician, I might go try to shoot something. I've been getting out for a few afternoon/evening hikes with limited success. Actually, I've only seen something I could shoot once and I blew it. There's something about a kill-shot that brings back my chi.

Keep 'em where they live...
